Know About Us

We are fabric enthusiasts who love patterns, weaving styles, print tech and use of colours. Being born in India naturally attracts us to the various art forms spread across its geography. Century-old techniques, rooted in culture, on how beautifully a cloth may be draped are not just intriguing, it is aspirational too, inviting us to come closer to these art forms and embrace them. These are not just generational gifts, but also a way to peacefully and sustainably coexist with nature.

The wondering on how days pass to shape a simple cloth by the weavers spread across India, using a wooden loom and a thread, made us want these handlooms to reach out to people.

Our Logo and Vision

Karya | Shala Collective is inspired from a letter 'क'. Our vision is to take our indigenous fabric from करघा (Kargha- Loom) to conscious wardrobes. While we believe in कर्म (Karma) and कर्त्तव्य (Responsibility) to honour कला (Art) and कौशल (Skill) of our weavers, we also want to credit appreciation to our कर्मयोगी (Hardworking) farmers for the कपास (Cotton) they provide.

To begin with we have started with 3 major categories of काला कपास (Kala Cotton), कपास (Cotton) and कौषेय (Silk), forming basic to our other forms of fabric like Kota Doria, Eri Cotton, Jute Cotton and art forms like Ajrakh, Bandhani, Gota Patti, and the likes.
